Filmmaking Academy: Making a Music Video

Ages 14 – 25

27 – 30 May 2024

Wales Millennium Centre

Are you 14–25 years old and interested in learning how to shoot your own music video?

Over a set of dynamic and fast-paced video-making workshops you'll work through the fundamentals of shooting creative music videos. Shot composition, editing, lighting, pre-production tips - every aspect of the creative process of shooting music videos will be covered. You'll get hands-on with high-end kit and will be given the chance to put their own creative stamp on the final videos.
This crash course is led by videographer Jamie Panton who has learned working in the music industry, giving you everything you need to know to start shooting your own music videos. For the relative newcomer looking to learn more, these sessions will provide you with all the tools to make a great music video!
As well as practical skills you’ll also learn film theory and other transferable skills - so even if you don’t have access to high-end kit, skills taken from this course can easily be transferred to your own work.

Who is teaching the course?

Jamie Panton has been freelancing as a videographer for a decade. Having started with little money and just a single DSLR and sound recorder he understands how to work to tight budgets and build up a video business from the ground up. His main work revolves around shooting documentaries and music videos, as well as doing corporate work. He has a passion for creating intimate documentaries, often creating pieces around mental health struggles and raising awareness of struggles people face. Jamie’s love of avant-garde cinema and old obscure films can be seen in his music video work.
Jamie loves teaching and passing on his passion for making videos and seeing what learners come up with during his dynamic and fast-paced workshops.
